Thoughts on this brand new never-before heard song with @ashwallbridge?
.
This track is streaming as a live demo of a @choonhq_ Smart Record Contract. Without getting too technical, when you listen to the full song, you can see royalties being distributed in real time via the Ethereum Blockchain. Basically COOL AS FUCK.
.
This is ‘CRYPTO’. Let me know if you like it 😬😎😳 Gaz xx

Five years today. Still punching 😎👊🏻 Happy anniversary to my amazing wife @kattemery. We can’t celebrate today because she’s in Miami killing it at Art Basel... but that’s all good because I fucking love that she’s a independent business powerhouse as well as a amazing wife + mother. See you next week ❤️

It won’t seem it but this post is about Bitcoin (which just hit $10,000 a coin). It's a bit of a boring story but if you like tech, you might find it of some interest.
.
In 1999, I got this phone. It was pretty notable as it was the first ever phone to have mobile internet, known at the time as WAP. Every other phone at that point made phone calls and sent regular SMS messages and did NOTHING ELSE. I know that’s gonna be hard to imagine for those of you who have never known the world before the iPhone, but phones were incredibly fucking basic at this point in time.
.
What could you do with this groundbreaking new phone, the Nokia 7110? Fuck all really. Mainly, I used it to download the football scores. It took a long fucking time.
.
Most people had a right old laugh about this. “Why on earth do you need to download the football scores on your phone? Just buy a newspaper. It’s cheaper (it was), it’s quicker (it was) and there are pictures! You’re wasting your time”.
.
And, at that point, they were right. A newspaper or TV was a far better way to get the football scores. I was indeed wasting my time. However, I continued to view them on the super-primitive version of the net I had on my phone. Why?
.
Because it felt like the fucking future.
.
Fast-forward nearly 20 years and everyone’s getting the football scores on their phone these days and the 'mobile internet' that almost everyone I knew laughed at me for using has changed almost every aspect of our lives.
.
Today, Bitcoin passed $10,000, and many people will be saying “It’s hardly got any real world uses, you can do everything better with regular money, it’s slow, it’s cumbersome etc” and THEY ARE RIGHT... today.
.
But just remember, it takes a lot longer than we think for technologies to become useful.
.
So if you're interested in Bitcoin, cryptocurrency or indeed any other new technology, don't ask what it does now. Ask what it *could* do in 2030. Because you'll get a very different answer.

Let's be honest - playing in any form of stadium is pretty fucking epic and being my first time at the legendary Sensation made today one I'll never forget
.
At first I was slightly grumpy about having to acquire white jeans which I didn't own (who the fuck does?) but after hearing the story of how #sensationwhite came about, I was glad to participate and found everyone being dressed the same a strangely levelling thing. Everyone felt equal which was actually a great thing.

It's good to say "thank you" not just on Thanksgiving but as often as you can. Trust me, it's a major fucking game changer.
.
Gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions you can practice. I try and do it every day but as long as I manage 4 days a week my attitude towards life is markedly improved.
.
If you are a highly strung type A achiever type (like me) learning to slow down and thank the world for what's good in your life, big or small, is massive.
.
For the longest time, I had a real issue enjoying any wins. I’d sell out a club, I wished I was selling a bigger one. I’d be flying business class but I wished I was flying first class. A song of mine would hit 1,000,000 YouTube plays and I’d immediately start thinking about 5,000,000. And so on. This sort of attitude led to me relentlessly achieving many thing but barely taking a moment to enjoy them. And what's the point in that?
.
These days I make a point of slowing down and saying 'thank you' as often as I can. Today, with this beautiful view, it's easy - but it's more important when I'm having a shit day. Taking a moment to appreciate the fact that my family are healthy, I don't live in a war zone, etc.
.
(Random fact, when you’re feeling ‘thankful’ it’s impossible to feel scared or angry either. So that’s good, too)
.
If you want to get into this a bit more, check out a book called The Five Minute Journal or Tony Robbin's priming routine.
.
Thank you all for all the joy you have given me this year.

This morning I want to briefly talk about one of the most f*cked up parts of the modern music industry: artists actually getting paid fairly.
.
Now, don’t get out the violins for me – I make 99% of my income touring and I have absolutely nothing to complain about.
.
But, this business really sucks for newer artists who are not as fortunate as me, and who can’t earn an income touring. They basically have 3 options.
.
1. Accept music is a hobby and you will always need a day job (great).
.

2. Become a successful live act and make money touring (this takes a long time, and only works if you don’t mind spending half your life away from home)
.
3. Produce for other people, either behind-the-scenes for pop acts, OR worse, as a ghost producer in dance music, staying in the shadows whilst a ‘superstar’ gets paid millions for tunes you actually made, paying you just enough to stay quiet.
.
The generally accepted wisdom for this all round shitty situation is “there is no money in music”. Well, there is. It’s a $16b dollar industry. There are just so many middleman in the process that the money doesn't flow to the right people.
.
Over the last six months, I have been working hard as co-founder of a new project called Choon which we believe could fundamentally change all this.
.
It’s a music streaming service based on the Ethereum blockchain (for the uninitiated, Ethereum is like Bitcoin’s better, more advanced sibling) which will make it way, WAY easier for up and coming artists to earn a living.
.
I’m not going to get too detailed here as I know only a limited number of you will be into this topic, but if you are l, I’d love you to check out our site at CHOON.CO where you can read our White Paper explaining our business model and the impact we plan to make on this fucked up industry.
.
I will also be doing a few AMA type events next week to take your questions on all this stuff.
.
It's early days but this is one of the most exciting projects I have ever worked on, which could solve many problems that have existed since I started out in this industry. Massively excited to get going.

I'm on the way to the airport watching all your videos and have no words except a huge sincere thanks to everyone who supported us last night. I'm half extremely sad it's over and half relieved that we pulled it off, haha. We used a lot of technologies that we'd never used before and are not standard at EDM shows and there were a few nerve wracking moments in the house before the show when certain things weren't working but in the end everything went perfectly! 🔥
.
Props to show designer @nicelasers for programming an absolute face melting fest of a set. 😱
.
If you came I'd love to hear your feedback, and if you didn't, let us know where to bring the show next!
.
PS: full video in the next day.

Fuuuuuck! Haven't had a car for a few years - after burning a shit ton of cash on the Huracan / Wraith I took a car detox and for the last few years have been taking Ubers and borrowing the wife's car. Been easy and cheap.
.
BUT at some point though something was bound to get me back in the game and now fucking @elonmusk has dropped this. All electric and the fastest production car in the world 😱😱😱

Have you seen the Gareth Emery themed In-n-out in Sacramento, CA?
.
No? Neither have I, because it doesn't fucking exist, but I'm playing in Sacramento on Thursday, I felt it was a good way to do my contractually-obliged-Instagram-post 😑
.
Listen. I fucking hate having to promote gigs on here. Flyers and 'come to my show' posts are a total turn off which is why you don't see many of them from me but occasionally the industry gets the better of me.
.
And seriously, as anyone who's come to this tour will hopefully attest, my set is full of some pretty fucking serious tunes right now, so if you're in Sac / NorCal I hope you'll come and join us on Thursday as I won't be in that part of the world for a while.

Taking a moment to appreciate the fact that my family are healthy, I don't live in a war zone, etc. . (Random fact, when you’re feeling ‘thankful’ it’s impossible to feel scared or angry either. So that’s good, too) . If you want to get into this a bit more, check out a book called The Five Minute Journal or Tony Robbin's priming routine. . Thank you all for all the joy you have given me this year. . Gaz xx

Here is how pretty much every big win in my life was generated: sat in front of a fucking laptop for hours on end with a cup of tea at the ready (and almost always in far shittier places than this).
.
Instagram is great at showing the 'highlight' reel of people we consider successful, and I'm just as guilty as this as anyone but it always starts here. This is the process that drives results.
.
💻Example: I got my first record deal because of a family holiday I barely participated in because I was ON MY LAPTOP making my first decent tune the whole time.
.
💻Example: I first got to step on the stage at EDC and other major festivals because of years on my laptop learning my craft, writing songs, then painstakingly getting the production right.
.
💻 Example: The CVNT5 TV show which drops in 2018 happened because of six months of waking up at 5AM to write scripts along with an equally hard-working team.
.
Yep, welcome to the process. It's unglamorous, solitary, boring, and there are many moments when I'd rather fuck it off and go and do something else, but it's how shit gets done.
.
Sat in front of a fucking computer on your own working longer and harder than 99.9% of other people. Skipping nights out with your friends because you're still grinding away. Carrying on perfecting your art when almost everyone else would have given up.
.
In the creative industries, it's not about 'hustling' which too often means taking 10 meetings a day to boast about yourself whilst actually doing absolutely nothing.
.
This, my friends, is how epic shit actually gets made.
.
Whatever you're working on right now, I hope you are fucking crushing it and if you were thinking of giving up, maybe this will help a little.
.

I am giving up alcohol for six months and would love your support.
.
(this was last night's farewell glass)
.
Done shorter alcohol breaks before but I've got some major projects to accomplish and really want to get in better shape so... yeah. Like most British people, I love a drink (or ten) and working in an industry where the booze is free (yay drinkers riders) I have a habit of hitting it rather too hard. So it's time for a time out.
.
I was really fucking hesitant to post this because as much as I am pretty fucking real on here I still don't like admitting weaknesses plus I knew once I'd made a public commitment I would have to follow it through and actually do it 😱
.
Any words of encouragement / tips from those who have smashed a long break appreciated!

You guys kept giving me shit for the extreme dullness of my outfits so I bought some new shoes just for Instagram ARE FUCKING HAPPY NOW?!! 😜
.
Seriously though I think these are the first clothes I've bought all year except topping up the ubitiquous $10 Uniqlo V necks. Literally saved so much decision making and shopping time I would highly recommend wearing the same 'uniform' every day to anyone ✅

That moment you realize #laserface is sold out!
.
Thank you NEW YORK for making the first ever #laserface show a total sell out! I’ll see u all at Terminal 5 on November 18th 🎵🇺🇸🇬🇧😎
.
We’re also throwing an official afterparty at @LavoNY following the show. This provides a crucial opportunity for me to:
.
1) get drunk and celebrate a successful laserface show (hopefully) and
.
2) get back some of the production cost ‘cos even though it’s sold out I am still losing money by spending a fucking small fortune on lasers (which is exactly how it should be).
.
(TMI, but you get the point).
.
Seriously though thank you New York. You have done us proud and we are working out asses off this month to do you proud for the inaugural #laserface.

I fucking love this tour. Every city so far has been so slammed, and I'm way happier with my current set and production than I have been for a long time... feel I'm hitting a good place between the different styles of trance. .
If u came to a show how was your experience? 🙈
