My social media game has been weak cos I’ve been doing life stuff but here is a rundown of the last week -
.

1) I shaved my face (deal with it) 😎
.
2) Den building skills are still strong after a 20 year absence
.
3) Tenerife is awesome
.
4) Sansa is growing up fast
.
5) Traveling with 2 young kids is chaotic but also somewhat awesome 🤪
.
Off to Jakarta for a festival and an after party then back to LA with the fam. I miss them already ❤️💋🚀✈️

“Where were you when you launched the platform that would redefine the music industry?”
.
“My mother-in-law’s haberdashery garage” 😂🤣😂
.
Seriously though most good tech companies seem to start from a garage so it’s quite fitting I am here today. And of course it doesn’t matter where you work. As long as there’s internet fire up the fucker and get started.
.
SO..... Choon launches today, I’ve done lot of chatting about this company so I won’t blab on but come visit us at CHOON.CO and check some of the music on there. We’ve worked out bollocks off on this since November and we think it’s come out rather nicely.
.
It’s a next level music streaming platform based on crypto / blockchain and is one of the music exciting projects I’ve ever been involved in, which we genuinely believe will change the lives of worldwide artists for the better 🔥

Finishing records is, and always has been hard as fuck for me. For the uninitiated here’s how it goes. When you first write a killer melody or vocal, you fucking love it. Imagine hearing a great track, for the first time, and you’ve just fucking invented it out of thin air? Yes, the feeling is that good.
.
However, producing a track to a high standard literally requires thousands and thousands of listens.
.
You know when you overplay a track and ruin it for yourself? Like that, but on steroids. Times a thousand.
.
So months later the track is nearly done but you’re now bored to fucking tears with that killer melody. The baseline all of a sudden sounds wrong. You question every element of the track even if you loved them at first. You never want to hear it again.
.
I say, without exaggeration, every single track I’ve finished has had A Struggle like this. A moment when I wanted to give up making music. When I thought I wasn’t good enough. When I beat myself up because I was sure things couldn’t be this fucking hard for Rob Swire or Eric Prydz and maybe I was just in the wrong fucking job.
.
Yet I reminded myself that people hearing a track for the first time would love it like I did at first, and the prize of releasing a great record is worth a few hard days.
.
So I pushed past those demons and finished my tracks.
.
Not once, not twice, but hundreds of times.
.
It does not get any easier, I’m afraid. But, this is, however, what it takes, so now you know.
.
(I’ve just finished something new so the struggle is quite fresh in the memory)

Genuinely heartbroken to hear about @avicii.
.
He was such an inspiration to me (the melody in Lost was entirely inspired by his, much better and more original track “all you need is love”)
.
I didn’t know Tim well, but on the 4-5 times we hung out or shared a stage he was never anything other than gracious and lovely, even as he was becoming the biggest DJ in the world.
.
It’s utterly tragic that he should have had a whole life of making his incredible melodies for us all, and yet he’s gone less than 10 years after his career started.
.
We - the dance music industry - need to get better at taking care of our younger stars. Heavy touring is mentally and physically brutal, even when you’re used to it. I can’t even imagine being remotely ready for it when I was 18. There’s always more gigs, more tracks and more money but you only get one life. This is such a wake up call.
.
RIP Tim Berling and thanks for all the music you made. For a short time, it made all our worlds a little brighter xx 😢

In a world where everyone is constantly documenting every single moment of their life, it’s bizzarely satisfying to work on truly insane projects in total isolation 😎
.
I admit, my social media game when not on tour is weak as fuck. That’s cos I am so focused on smashing whatever the hell it is I am working on, and delivering something I can be proud of for the rest of my life, that I simply don’t want the distraction of documenting it via stories along the way or ruining the surprise of the announcement.
.
You will notice I almost never post what I am working on or similar because, I would rather let the results speak for themselves.
.
If you’re creating content and working on long projects, the current ‘standard wisdom’ is post all the time and document what you’re working on. But remember, there’s always another way 😎👌🎶
